  1. I appreciate how Martin Luther stand his faith because he didn't renounce his faith in spite of great circumstances or even to the point of death. It reminded me of how we are blessed today because someone stand their faith and today we are able to enjoy the grace of God. During the time when the ISIS beheaded 21 Christians they were asked to renounce their faith but they didn't renounce. Even some of them sang when they were going to be beheaded. They endure and have joy while facing the kind of death they were experiencing. Martin Luther is a priest but it is amazing how God transformed him and how he stood firm on his faith that is based on the truth eventhough how he was being persecuted by the Catholics from which he came from. Today, Christians also are facing persecutions and some are convince to deny their faith in Jesus Christ especially Christians who are living in the Middle East they were being offered a big salary just to become a Muslim convert.

    1. That is true ate Dory. I also do appreciate Martin Luther and praise God for the courage He has given to stand regardless of what people may advise you. If we imagine ourselves back then and be on the same shoes of Martin, would we also do such thing? Whereby, we dismiss the thought of recant and stand up to the truth that we have believed in in the light of God's Word.

    2. It's sad to think that many of the priest before are against of what Luther stand for. He stand for his faith in God and about the salvation. Salvation can be gain only by faith and it is God's gift to us (Eph. 2:8-9). I appreciate how he stand for it. Even if it will cut off his life but he stand for it for the sake of what the Bible says. I question myself if I will stand my faith even someone will persecute me? I was reflecting that thing, then I realize that I can do it because God is so faithful to me even i will be in the point of death, He is with me

  2. It's so sad to think that priests or bishops way back then persuades people to do things that are no longer abiding to God's biblical truth. Thy were implying self-indulgence on every city or country due to their plan envisioned. To be specific, the Pope at that time thought of himself as heir of Peter's obligation or mission, where he ought to finish what was started or planned of. Due to that, peoples faith were deceived, and the Bible's teachings about salvation specifically were deviated. I firmly be on the side of Martin Luther of doing the best he can to enlighten the mind of those uneducated people, who were just following the teachings about saving your family or relatives from the Purgatory. It takes great courage to stand out in the crowd or to do the right thing. And that's what Martin Luther did. He did not tolerate any mischief in the church. All of us know that the person will be punished or be sentenced to death if they have done something wrong in the yes of the people. In spite of, Martin was clever and knew how to defend himself against all arrows of false accusations. He still stand up his feet and accept bravely the consequences he might encounter in life. But still, God is great and faithful to protect His people from his foes no matter how hard they try. And that how precious and blessed are we who are the children of God.

    1. you are right my friend that many people in the past was being deceived by that wrong teaching of the Roman Catholic Church, because they deviated the Scripture and taught people the teaching like purgatory and indulgence to gain money, how sad.

    2. Same to you, it's so sad to think that those who were ranked as priest and highly regarded as holy servants of God could do such thing. And we can't deny that we are guilty also on that matter in our daily living. Wherein, people may judge your action and weigh it down if it abides to what you have believed in.

    3. If Martin Luther did recant his faith, probably we are still under those hands of men who are blind and does not have the understanding of what's the truth.

  4. Knowing that Martin Luther was a degree holder and was very wise, he could just have depended on his own wit. With this statement he had left, he only proved that he relied only to His God. I could not think of myself as being in that situation, it was between life and death. I could think of my other foot stepping on the cemetery while the other is on the plain ground. In Martin Luther's case, integrity really matters the most. For as long as he knew that what he did was right and was aligned with God's will, he was just confident to declare that he will never ever recant on his belief.
So to us in this generation as well, recanting the faith we have does not only show verbally but Christians today are "recanting" in their way of living, thinking and speaking. We can also renounce our faith in the form of how we live. We might not be aware of it but are we really showing others that we are Jesus' followers?

    4. I also want to agree to your point ate Elai, which signifies putting faith into action. If that is what we believed, can we dare to stand out in the crowd and ignore what they might think about us or the consequences we might face ahead? In a reason that, Christmanship is not only to proclaim, but is also to demonstrate from the inside and out.

  5. Martin Luther is a great example of those who are standing out for the truth. The fact that he defended the truth is because he knew it. He has a wide knowledge of the Bible compared to anyone else in Germany in his time. In this sense he was able to compare what the Roman Catholic Church taught and what the Bible says. As an implication, further knowledge regarding the word if God is very vital. We need to study the word of God well so that we can identify the wrong teachings from the right teachings and so we can defend the truth because our conscience is clear before God. I think this could also be one reason why martin Luther did not recant his belief because in the first place his conscience is clear before the Lord. He did what is in the word of God and so he was not afraid on the consequences that lies if he do not recant. I think he was more afraid of the consequences of doing the opposite.

    1. I like the part when you said papartz that "we need to study the word of God well so we can identify the wrong teachings", and here we can declare God's faithfulness in our lives that he has given us (the students) the opportunity to know more about the truth because of His grace and because of the privilege in studying in a theological College. And in this way, we can refute and not only defend our own faith if it is really needed.

  6. Martin Luther was giving us the example how on how to respond when our belief was being confronted by those who are in the high position but teaching people the practices and belief that contradict to what the Scripture say's, Martin Luther was really a man of God who truly understand what the Scripture say's, he stand on the ground he defended the faith and and without fear facing the emperor and the priest that he will not recant to the truth that where he cling on, I know that by that time Martin Luther experience fear, but God strengthen him and able to defend. We as followers of Jesus Christ when situations like this happened to us, we will do as what Martin Luther did, we will not recant because we know that we stand on the truth, and the same truth will give us strength and courage to defend it.
I appreciate also the courage of Martin Luther to oppose the wrong practices that Roman Catholic impose in those days, and it encourage me to do the same, but maybe in a gentle way.

  7. The Lord says, " Call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you and You shall glorify me". He promised in His word that whenever we call His name He will answer us. I can see how the Lord answer the prayer of Martin Luther. The Lord's work in him was very awesome. When people told him to recant what he believe in, Martin by the grace of God able to stand up what is right in front of people, specially to our KING. He was then one of the best people who stand up what is right. He set an example that we Christian should stand-firm what we are believing about our faith. We do not need to be afraid for those people who wants to destroy our beliefs. Because I do believe we are just passing by in this earth. We are just alien in this world. Our home is in heaven.
So, when people mock and want us to deny about what we believing for, let us be reminded that our security is not here but in heaven.

  8. Martin Luther was well used in the drama of Christianity. Indeed he did played a significant role by which made me aware on how God works in unexpected people's lives, authorities, and events. Thus I realized that those people who are strong in their belief in either right or wrong are able to create a larger impact in every heroic memories of humanity. But knowing that Christ's reality of choosing individuals as his instrument of building such perfect structure is totally unknown. On the other hand, we must also be aware that most huge contributions to this construction is not visible nor recorded in the history at all. These people like Luther can also be an instrument of hope and encouragement to other construction workers of His majesty. Generally speaking, this statement of Martin is obviously grounded by the truth of God's word, hence it was what gave him that courage and apart from it is foolishness.

"For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor principalities, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord".
Martin Luther demonstrate his life in this verse. He was a person that no one can moved but only God. It is very inspiring seeing him like that and I hope even today, we will also do the same thing. To seek what is right, to fight on what he believed in, to help other people to know Christ, and to seek God's plan in every decision in our lives. Overall,God really used the life of Martin Luther for His glory.

  11. Martin Luther was for me, a stand-out Christian, He stood among all, he stood for what He believes and that I salute him for his great integrity in which, showed a great example to all the other Christians out there, including us, to never be afraid to die for Him, as He had never, in doubt, died for us. It was not easy, Luther did a magnificent act as to show that His love for God is greater than his love for himself, he showed humility and love not a selfish one but one that glorifies God and God alone. By that, Martin Luther, got my heart, he got my respect and love.

  12. In our kitchen devotion for this week, we talked about "standing in the crowd". Our theme song titled "Stand for Jesus" And for me, it is a reminder always that, I need to stand for the Glory of our God. It is not easy, for you need to sacrifice, you need to denied yourself, you may became strangers to others but it is worth it and rewarding. This is our temporary home, but it doesn't mean we should not do our part as a follower of Christ. God transformed us in order to reach other people and to become his follower also.
Martin Luther stand from the crowd for he knew deep in his heart that, when he stands, he is not standing alone but he stands with Christ. And as a Christian today we should do the same thing. We need to stand for the glory of God.
Look beyond and be part of God's working hand in each of one's lives. Spreading God's word and let others hear it and so, they may believe.
I believe that God who works in the past is the same God who works us today.
    Stand up for Jesus!

    1. Standing up for Jesus is pretty much easy to say. But it really is hard to do. The question we should ask ourselves is, are we willing to die for Jesus? When we face the situation of being in a shoot-to-kill event, forcing us to recant or to die, would we actually say that we would die for Christ?

  13. As for me, Martin Luther truly inspires many believers to stand in the truth. His bold words had stirred our imagination and captived us in a broader sense. I admire his courage as he refused to recant and firmly stand of what we believe that we are saved by God and it is by grace through faith alone and on account of Christ alone. This rekindle us to firmly stand of our orthodox . Faith in Christ worth the risk. It is tough faith a constant commitment to hang on and believe God against all odds, no matter what. And so we are too, can and should say," Here I stand, I cannot do otherwise". Stand up for Jesus.

Now it is a challenge for us to get out and Stand! Stand for Jesus!
And Martin Luther, our fellow brother in Christ, has become the epitome of a Christian in his time, even to us today. His influence is still penetrating to the hearts of every believer.
In this generation, we need people like Martin Luther, people who are not afraid to get out of the world, and stands for Jesus, people who choose to live a dangerous yet adventurous life for the sake of Christ.
May his example not just be seen and felt like a vapor, but will serve as an engine to each one of us, to choose what is not selfish but only for the glory of our God alone!

  15. Luther exemplified bravery for believers. His answer cost him death but he was not shaken with the fear of being executed. The title that was given to him as the father of reformation truly fits him for he stood his ground in faith and what he believed in which caused the dissemination of truth and refutation against indulgences and idolatry in the Catholic church. This proves that our faith is worth fighting for by the way how God preserved his life in spite threats of probable death sentence if he won't recant. Luther's life serves as a reminder that when we fight for our faith, we are not fighting alone but God is with us. We should not be afraid.

To speak for the truth is to speak for God. Martin Luther is a great example of faith and endurance. He endured all the testings of his faith. He chose to stand on the truth. Despite of the pressures and every bad effects of it, he still ended up glorifying God. He did not recant his teachings for he know that those teachings are the truth. Luther was not a selfish man, he seeks for the truth and shares it to others. He was not unresponsive. He spread the message of truth to keep the people away from false religious teachings and let them see the other side which light can be seen.
The life of Martin Luther is indeed a worthy to be followed footprints. These days are dangerous. People keeps on making their own beliefs. they tend to believe to the things which comforts them, but the truth that slaps are not being accepted. We, Christians, like Luther, we are suppose to be responsive. responsive in such a way that if someone questions our beliefs, we are ready to explain it. 20. Many believers today have this kind of "Private Faith". These are the one who are afraid to let others know about what they believed in because of fear to be questioned. In Martin Luther's life, he exemplified a life that trusted God and not in his own. He allowed the truth to revealed than preserved his life and compromise his faith. He's an example of a man of God who was willing to deny everything for the purpose of the Gospel. His life was also an encouragement for us not to stay on milk teachings but on solid spiritual food. He knows that what he believe is right and it is what the Bible says which is our standard of all, the Word of God. He show his total dependent in God that he can do nothing to save his life but he ask help from God that as long as he will stand in his faith and belief, God will make a way to save his life. As we saw and learned that Martin success from this event, he did not recant for it is supported by the Word of God what he is fighting for. In this event, of course the center is God. His statement really shows that even if our faith in God cost our life we must still hold on to it, for we know our real home and life is in heaven.

  31. I would say that Martin was courageous not to recant. He really stood of what was in his heart. He stood on his faith. He was been misunderstood of what he did. He is the man also that really brave to questions the teachings of the RCC. I would say that if we stand for the truth there is really challenges that will happen. Sometimes it will cost your life but for me it is really worth to die for the truth. God wants us to hold on to Him and we need to stand for the truth and for our faith.

  32. If I were Luther, I too, would not recant. I know the truth and must therefore do what I can within my power to uphold this belief and this stand. This might be an eye opener to others. If Luther was killed at that instant for not recanting, then many would believe that he had a reason, a deep and important one, to die for. I believe that Luther gave importance to what he believed in even at the risk of losing his life and endangering the others who surround him, like family and friends. It was brave for Luther to do so, that many great saints and leaders would be embarrassed to even compare themselves or be compared to Luther.
